For best results the patient must lie still.
A contrast dye maybe used -orally or injected, because it can help show certain structures more clearly.
The patient may need to abstain from food, and possibly drink, for a specific period before the scan.
Inform your doctor or attending medical staff if you have Metal implants in your body, known allergy to dyes, pregnant or breastfeeding.
It is useful for obtaining images of:
- Soft tissues
- The pelvis
- Blood vessels
A CT scan is better suited to cancer, pneumonia, abnormal chest x-rays, bleeding in the brain, especially after an injury.
Shows organ tear and organ injury more quickly, making it more suitable for trauma cases.
